BYPASS GÁSTRICO

What is Gastric Bypass?
Gastric bypass is a well-established mixed bariatric surgery technique for treating obesity when other treatments have not achieved the expected results. It combines two mechanisms to promote effective and sustainable weight loss: it reduces stomach size, creating a feeling of fullness with a small amount of food, and it modifies intestinal transit, shortening part of the food path to reduce calorie absorption.
The procedure is performed laparoscopically, through small incisions that allow the creation of a small stomach pouch directly connected to a further part of the small intestine. In this way, food “bypasses” part of the stomach and the first section of the intestine, which helps limit intake and nutrient absorption, facilitating weight loss and improving various obesity-related factors.
Who is it indicated for?
Gastric bypass is particularly indicated for patients with a high Body Mass Index (BMI) who have not been able to lose weight through diets, exercise, or less invasive treatments, as well as for those with obesity associated with health issues such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, or cardiovascular diseases.
How does it help change your life?
In addition to enabling significant weight loss, gastric bypass can help improve or even resolve obesity-related conditions. After the procedure, the patient is supported by a team of experts in nutrition, medicine, and psychology to ensure a comprehensive transformation and healthy lifestyle habits that allow long-term results to be maintained.
